Our Mission and Vision
The Maryland Coalition for Inclusive Education, Inc. (MCIE) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the inclusion of students with disabilities in their neighborhood schools. Our mission is to be the catalyst for meaningful and successful participation of all students in their neighborhood schools.
MCIE has a vision of a society where neighborhood schools welcome all students, engage them in learning, and form the foundation for inclusive communities. We envision that in neighborhood schools, students with disabilities will benefit from meaningful instruction, have friends, and be full members of their school communities.
Founded in 1988, MCIE's initial efforts were focused on community organizing and administrative advocacy. As we've grown, so have our services and expertise. Today, MCIE successfully promotes effective and inclusive education practices in Maryland and beyond! We advocate for families, support schools in their work to improve instruction and inclusion, and share current information on best educational practices. We work with schools, districts, and states and collaborate with universities, advocacy agencies, professional organizations, and a variety of disability groups. Through our customized services, we provide solutions for inclusive education on the system, school and student level.
