MCIE Joins University of Kansas in Conducting Research on Self-Determined Learning Model of Instruction

MCIE is pleased to join Karrie Shogren, Michael Wehmeyer, and Kathleen Lane of the University of Kansas in conducting research on supports for teachers implementing the Self-Determined Learning Model of Instruction (SDLMI). Funded by the Institute on Educational Science, this study will evaluate the effect of various levels of SDLMI implementation support on teachers' knowledge, skills, and implementation of SDLMI, and the impact on students' self-determination, access to the general education curriculum, and academic outcomes. For information on the SDLMI, please see The Self-Determined Learning Model of Instruction Teacher’s Guide [PDF]. The coming school year will involve preparation and training, with implementation over the next 3 years in up to 18 high school Social Studies and English classes. This will be an important contribution to Maryland and to the education field! Please contact Carol Quirk, cquirk@mcie.org, with any questions, and you can view the full details of the grant award here.
